You can’t get much more American than hanging out at the beach, barbecuing with friends and family and celebrating the birth of our great nation on the Fourth of July – except watching a dramatic fireworks display that lights up the sky. And there’s no doubt about it that Hawaii locals love a good fireworks show, whether it’s an official celebration or setting off a few fireworks in your backyard. The live musical entertainment begins at 5 p.m., and the fireworks are set to go off at 9 p.m.

The annual tradition has been going strong since 1948, and has only gotten better with time: the Twilight airshow was added to the annual programming in 2000, and this year, the event will feature a new show, Skydive Hawaii Presents Colonel John Bates and the Flying Leathernecks. Earlier in the day, you can check out the 71st annual Kailua Independence Day Parade scheduled from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

U.S. Army Garrison-Hawaii/Facebook Open to Department of Defense cardholders and their sponsored guests, this all-day event at Weyand Field features concerts, rides, games, food, and fireworks. Special musical guests include Tyler Farr and Natalie Imbruglia, and fireworks are set to go off at 8:30 p.m. on the Fourth.

The Royal Coconut Coast/Facebook As the self-proclaimed largest aerial fireworks show on Kauai, this 27th annual event will feature plenty of live music, dance, and food starting at 4 p.m., followed by a fireworks show at 8:30 p.m. after the sun goes down - choreographed to a 20-minute soundtrack. The event will also feature keiki games, water slides, bounce houses, a silent auction, crafts, and a variety of food options.

HMSA/Facebook From 4 to 9:30 p.m., head to Kauai’s western shores for cultural demonstrations, exhibits, crafts, a plantation museum, game booths, and, of course, a fireworks show accompanied by live music.
