With the final few weeks of summer approaching, you may be trying to fit in one or two more road trips before school starts back up. Louisiana is full of wonderful attractions that won’t break the bank, and listed below (in no particular order) are some of our favorites.

  1. Prehistoric Park

Lisa T./Trip Advisor Step back into the Jurassic area with this unique dinosaur themed park. The 12 acre park is a great way to spend the day learning about this massive beasts. The replicas are intricately detailed and some of them are even animatronic. Learn more about Prehistoric Park here.

  1. Grand Isle

The drive down LA 1 is very picturesque, and once you get to Grand Isle, you’ll feel like you’re in another state. Grand Isle State Park offers camping, nature trails, a beach, and a 900-foot fishing pier. Grand Isle is also a wonderful spot for birdwatching, so keep your eyes peeled!   1. Gators & Friends

Gators & Friends/Facebook This adventure park is fun for all ages. With over 150 alligators and an exotic animal zoo, you’ll have hours of fun learning about these animals. Their main attraction is an extreme zip line that’ll take you straight over live gators! Learn more about Gators & Friends here.

  1. Visit A Winery

Landry Vineyards/Facebook Landry Vineyards has been producing delicious wine since 1999, and a tour of their vineyards will transport you to another land. They also have regular outdoor concerts with local musicians, so make sure to follow them on Facebook for the latest updates. Learn more about Landry Vineyards here.

  1. Poverty Point

Lori B./Trip Advisor Poverty Point is still bit of a mystery, but archaeologists are constantly unearthing clues to learn more about this interesting piece of Louisiana history. Poverty Point was built sometime between 1650 and 1100 B.C. While the original inhabitants left no written record of their day to day lives, archaeologists have found several figurines, relics, pots, arrowheads, and other things that help us understand what Poverty Point was used for.   1. Visit A Plantation

San Francisco Plantation/Facebook Take a tour of a plantation house and learn about the history of the family and the area surrounding it.   1. Take A Swamp Tour

Cajun Encounters Tour Company/Facebook Explore the beautiful bayous with an experienced tour guide who will explain the history and importance of our amazing wetlands. There are several companies that would be happy to take you on a tour, and you can find some of our favorites here.

  1. Explore The Creole Trail

Louisiana Travel/Flickr This epic All-American Road is 180 miles of scenic highways that’ll take you through what’s known as “Louisiana’s Outback.” Alligators, turtles, over 400 species birds, and hundreds of other animals call the area home so you’re sure to see some wildlife.   1. Spent The Night With Some Ghosts

Nottoway Plantation/Facebook It’s no secret Louisiana has some notoriously haunted attractions. People come from all over hoping to see one of these apparitions, and you can too! There are several bed and breakfasts, plantations, and hotels that are known for their ghostly encounters, and you can stay the night if you dare. Here’s a list of some of the most haunted places you can stay the night.

  1. Global Wildlife

Global Wildlife Center/Facebook Take a covered wagon tour and feed zebras, buffalo, giraffes and more! This is a definite win for all ages. Learn more about Global Wildlife here.

  1. Avery Island

Avery Island/Trip Advisor A visit to Avery Island is definitely worth your while. Tour the Tabasco plant and then spend the afternoon in the jungle gardens admiring the beautiful foliage and abundant wildlife. There’s a massive egret rookery that will blow you away.   1. Barataria Preserve

Jackie Ann/Flickr These beautiful boardwalk trails will take you through parts of the swamp and marsh you wouldn’t be able to get to otherwise. Make sure to bring your camera, you’ll encounter some amazing views! There are multiple trails, all varying in length and they’re all free! Learn more about Barataria Preserve here.

Cypremort Point State Park/Facebook With over 20 state parks, you’re never too far away from one. Typically, state parks don’t charge very much for admission, so find one to road trip to and get out and explore! Here are some of our favorite state parks.
