New Mexico has many beautiful wineries that are definitely worth exploring, but we also have an ever-increasing number of breweries. Many are in the Albuquerque area but, even outside Duke City, you’ll find a surprising number of breweries and tap rooms. These 12 establishments combine quality beer with delectable food. Bring your appetite – and a designated driver!

The brewery is particularly strong on ale and – as an added bonus – this place is also a micro-distillery. Green chile vodka, anyone? The most convenient location is in downtown Silver City at 200 N Bullard Street, but there’s also a seasonal location 25 miles north of town (1122 Highway 35, Silver City).

However, the fare available is excellent, from the artisanal meat and cheese platters to the Rueben sandwich. The actual brewery is in Santa Fe (1228 Parkway Drive, Unit D, Santa Fe) and there’s also a taproom in Albuquerque (at 606 Central Avenue SW).

In addition to great food, you can also sample four beers for $5 - a pretty good deal. The alien amber ale has won multiple medals, and who can resist a green chile cerveza? The actual brewery is in Moriarty but there’s no on-site restaurant there. So, if you’re hungry, it’s best to head to the tap room, located at 441 Mechem Drive in Ruidoso

If you’re in the mood for down home done fancy, you’ll love this restaurant, where an award-winning chef produces creative meals such as lobster tater tots with sriracha sauce and jalapeño aioli, and a flight of bacon. New rule: every restaurant must offer bacon flights! There are 24 beers and ciders available and, although this spot is technically a tap house rather than a brewery, the food’s so good you won’t care. Freight House is located at 200 S Camino Del Pueblo in Bernalillo.

Although the food here is definitely Southern, there is a section of the menu devoted to salads as well, if you want something lighter. You can actually tour Nexus Brewery, although you do need an appointment. This establishment is located at 4730 Pan American East Freeway NE, Suite D, in Albuquerque.

However, their beer is fantastic and includes a red chile porter (yes, “chile” is spelled correctly) and their calzones will blow you away, so we’re going to give them a pass. This restaurant and brewhouse is located at 1012 N California Street in Socorro.

There are two Albuquerque locations: 8900 San Mateo Boulevard NE, Suite I and 106 Girard Boulevard SE, Suite B. The Las Cruces location is at 901 E. University Avenue, Building 945, Suite 3-A.
